Home/Updates / Project Update: Uganda Biosciences Park takes shape

The ambitious vision for Uganda’s Pathogen Economy continues its rapid progression. On Friday, December 12, 2025, the construction site for the Uganda Biosciences Park hosted a pivotal executive visit, confirming that the flagship facility is swiftly moving from structural completion to the critical interior and finishing stages.

The site inspection was personally led by Prof. Moses Lutaakome Joloba, the Chief Executive Officer of Ndiyo Biosciences. His on-site presence underscores the executive priority being placed on the timely and high-quality delivery of this national project.

Prof. Joloba took the opportunity on-site to sincerely thank the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation – Office of the President (STI-OP). He recognized their unwavering support and love for the country through the continued financial backing rendered to this project, which benefits the entire country by fostering self-sufficiency in critical health technologies.

Construction, a collaborative effort with the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), shows substantial progress. The key highlights observed during the visit include:

  • Superstructure Complete: The entire multi-story concrete framework for the flagship PCR and Antibody Diagnostics Kit Factory is now fully erected, defining the physical footprint of the facility.
  • Focus Shifts Inward: The presence of scaffolding and activity confirms the critical transition to the final phases of construction: exterior cladding and the complex interior build-out. This involves installing utilities, creating specialized cleanroom environments, and partitioning lab spaces required for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) compliance.

The next few months are crucial as the team focuses on transforming the completed shell into a sophisticated, functional manufacturing and research environment.

The Diagnostics Kit Factory is a cornerstone of the Uganda Biosciences Park, designed to enhance national preparedness and reduce dependence on imported health solutions. Upon full operation, the park is projected to:

  • Boost Domestic Manufacturing: Produce essential PCR and Antibody Diagnostic Kits for use in human and veterinary health.
  • Create Massive Employment: Contribute significantly to the projected 90,000 employment opportunities, developing a robust talent pipeline across Uganda’s academic and vocational institutions.

The steady progress observed confirms Ndiyo Biosciences’ commitment to delivering a truly self-reliant and innovation-driven scientific future for Uganda.
